The goal in this work package is to build subject-specific musculoskeletal models and provide an integrated framework for the lower limb forward and inverse functional simulation. Several levels of details are considered for soft-tissues (e.g. piece-wise muscle action lines, FE isotropic muscles) and simulation methods (e.g. idealized and non-idealized joints and contacts, FE physical-based contacts). EPFL mainly carries out the development of the models and the simulation framework. However, integration tasks is involved, requiring the collaboration with the following partners:
SMI is providing motion capture data, including EMG signals and ground reaction forces to EPFL from WT4. These data are used during the neuromuscular simulation to (1) solve the inverse dynamics / static optimization equations and (2) to validate the resulting forces.
INRIA and UNIGE are providing subject-specific anatomical models of bones, attachments sites, cartilages and ligaments from WT2 and interactive deformation models from WT3.
IOR is giving the mathematical rheological models of soft-tissues from WT3.
