In 2005 he obtained his PhD in Biomedical Physics & Bio-Engineering at the University of Aberdeen, where he obtained his BSc in 2001. Following his PhD, he was awarded a British Heart Foundation Junior Fellowship which he held at Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, and was subsequently a Research Fellow at the University of Auckland. His research experience includes modelling & mechanical testing of soft tissues (e.g. heart valves, intervertebral discs & cartilage).
He has been invited to serve: as a Conference committee member (for Systems Biology and Bioengineering) at the World Congress on Engineering, London (2007 & 2008); and on the International editorial board for the Journal of Clinical Rehabilitative Tissue Engineering Research.
He is also interested in the promotion of science & engineering, being involved in initiatives such as ‘Noise’ http://www.noisemakers.org.uk
